WRIGHT: LIVERPOOL WILL WIN THE LEAGUE
BBC Sport pundit Ian Wright has revealed who he wants to win the title after the title race took another turn following Liverpool’s defeat at the hands of Man City last weekend.
Manchester City saw off Jurgen Klopp’s men 2-1 at the Etihad to pile up the pressure on table-toppers Liverpool.
Argentine forward Sergio Aguero gave his team the lead in the first half before Firmino dragged Liverpool level early in the second period. The game seemed to be heading for a draw before Leroy Sane fired City ahead late on, sending the Etihad Stadium into raptures.
The bookies are touting Liverpool to record their first Premier League title win since 1990.
Former Arsenal and Manchester City striker Ian Wright wants to see Liverpool lift the Premier League trophy but admits the title race will go down to the wire with reigning champions Man City hot on their tails.
When asked who he wants to win the league, Wright chipped in, “Liverpool. It’s got to be Liverpool”.
“Manchester City are an amazing team and I expect them to give Liverpool a run for their money.”
“It’s nothing less than you’ll expect from them because they want to try to retain the Premier League title – a feat that hasn’t been achieved for many years”.
“They should be given credit for winning that game because no other team has done that this season”.
“But I’m rooting for Liverpool because I believe they are very hungry for that title – a title that has eluded them for all of 29 years”.
Ian Edward Wright is an English former professional footballer who played for both Arsenal and Manchester City. He is currently a studio pundit for BT Sport, BBC Sport and ITV Sport.
