DO MANE AND SALAH NEED TO BE BENCHED?
Even though Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp may not fancy the idea, he has been urged in recent weeks to bench his two star players Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Both attackers have not performed excellently in recent games and have wasted chances that have cost them games in recent weeks, including in their most recent game against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
In the first leg against Real Madrid, even though Salah scored the consolation goal for the Reds, he and Mane missed a couple of chances to score more goals that would have seen them reduce the deficit. But their inability to put in a better performance meant that they would be inflicting a huge loss on the team.
In the second leg, it was not a different tale. The two attackers, known for their prolificacy in front of goal, also drew blank once more. Some of the chances they missed included an unbelievable Salah miss as he came against Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois. The Egyptian forward would be expected to Bury that kind of chance, but he unbelievably blew the chance and the match ended 0-0, confirming their exit from the Champions League this season.
Klopp has always backed the players and has insisted that he will not drop them to the bench because it’s not entirely their fault that they have not enjoyed a fine run of form recently.
